[Abstract] This study focused on the question, What is the experience of being gentle with oneself? Personal experiences were described and explored using the heuristic research model. The personal involvement in heuristic studies allows greater understanding of the phenomenon of being gentle. There are a few references to other studies, specifically, gentle approaches in teaching and guiding children and teenagers who have various educational and interpersonal problems. Individually, 3 men and 8 women participated in audio-taped interviews. After each interview, data was obtained through transcriptions of tapes, observations, notes, and other personal expressions. . Each interview and transcription were reviewed to depict themes and patterns that are experienced as becoming experienced as becoming gentle with oneself. In this study, six themes were identified and illustrated. These 6 themes are: 1. Distractions, 2. Perceptions, 3. Behavioral-Neurophysical Responses, 4. Receptiveness, 5. Communicating Gentleness, and 6. Making Significant Changes/Influences. The participants in this study became aware of the affects from being gentle with themselves. Being gentle with oneself can be inducted in 'how' and 'what 'one experiences being alive will evoke gentleness of others, facilitating better relationships and greater esteem.
