The aim of this work is to understand the sound features of aircraft noise from a perceptual point of view. It was carried out inside a European project, Sound Engineering for Aircraft (SEFA), supported by the sixth framework program. The first step is to identify these sound features using a sound design approach, still never been applied in aircraft noise research. Based on actual recordings, a first test revealed that subjects are sensitive to two spectral and two temporal factors and also gave a ranking of sounds toward preference. A second one was carried out in order to assess the impact of each factor on sound quality. The second step was the evaluation of annoyance due to sound sequences, in terms of subjects' disturbance during cognitive tests. Noise annoyance was assessed using both categorical and magnitude scales. Sound sequences all have the same energy (LAeq) but they differ in terms of number of events (2 levels) and tones level (3 levels of tones). Performance was measured using cognitive tests scores. It does not differ between sequences whereas annoyance is statistically dependant from the number of events when it is assessed using a magnitude scale. The difference related to tones level is not heard in this context

My subject relates to the study of some problems of antennas LTED used in IRM. They are dielectric cover partially by a very fine layer of metal. We proposed three formulations based on methods of the surface types. It is a method which associates finite elements in the dielectric one and a simple cutting on metal. It makes it possible to reduce the number of unknown factors considerably. A complete study of each formulation was proposed and compared with another method which associates finished Elements and integral methods for some types of antennas

This thesis is dedicated to the design of LDPC channel codes for moderate block length applications (500 to 3000 bits). In the first part, a new class of LDPC codes, named hybrid LDPC codes, is introduced and analyzed in the asymptotic case for symmetric memoryless channels. The code parameter optimization problem is expressed by EXIT charts. Simulations show that these codes are interesting for moderate codeword length, as well as for low rate applications. In the second part of the thesis, we have tried to determine which kind of machine learning methods might be useful to design LDPC codes and decoders well performing in the short code length case. In the third part, we have proposed a class of two-bit decoders. An expansion theorem is proved, providing sufficient conditions for a column-weight-four code with Tanner graph of girth six to correct any three errors

The time taken by standard Monte Carlo (MC) simulation to calculate the Frame Error Rate (FER) increases exponentially with the increase in Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). Importance Sampling (IS) is one of the most successful techniques used to reduce the simulation time. In this thesis, we investigate an advanced version of IS, called Adaptive Importance Sampling (AIS) algorithm to efficiently evaluate the performance of Forward Error Correcting (FEC) codes at very low error rates.First we present the inspirations and motivations behind this work by analyzing different approaches currently in use, putting an emphasis on methods inspired by Statistical Physics. Then, based on this qualitative analysis, we present an optimized method namely Fast Flat Histogram (FFH) method, for the performance evaluation of FEC codes which is generic in nature. FFH method employs Wang Landau algorithm and is based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). It operates in an AIS framework and gives a good simulation gain. Sufficient statistical accuracy is ensured through different parameters. Extension to other types of error correcting codes is straight forward.We present the results for LDPC codes and turbo codes with different code lengths and rates showing that the FFH method is generic and is applicable for different families of FEC codes having any length, rate and structure. Moreover, we show that the FFH method is a powerful tool to tease out the pseudo-codewords at high SNR region using Belief Propagation as the decoding algorithm for the LDPC codes

The aim of this work is to present the interest of using hardware solutions such as FPGAs for the digital implementation of control algorithms of electrical machines. For this reason, a methodical approach based on an appropriate design methodology is firstly presented and discussed. This design methodology allowed the realization of a specific library, composed of reusable hardware architectures, which is dedicated to the control of electrical machines. It also allowed the FPGA implementation of several current control algorithms of a synchronous machine. The implemented current control techniques are: ON/OFF current controllers ; Predictive current controllers ; PI current controllers ; Sliding mode current controllers. The operating mode corresponding to each one of the designed hardware architectures is studied and presented throughout this memory. The contribution and the benefits of FPGA components in the control of electrical machines are also analyzed and discussed

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of polypropylene and steel fibres on the behaviour of concrete subjected to high temperature. Polypropylene fibres were added to the studied concrete mixes in order to improve the concrete thermal stability. Steel fibres were added to the studied concrete mixes in order to improve the concrete residual mechanical properties. News concretes mixes were then designed by adding a cocktail of polypropylene fibres and steel fibres in order to improve both the thermal stability and the residual mechanical properties of the studied concrete. Four groups of concrete mixes were studied: - concretes without fibres, - concretes with polypropylene fibres, - concretes with steel fibres, and - concretes with a cocktail of polypropylene and steel fibres. Three water/cement ratios were used: 0.30, 0.45 and 0.61. The concrete specimens were subjected to various heating - cooling cycles from the room temperature to 150°C, 300°C, 450°C and 600 °C. The heating rate was fixed at 1 °C.min-1. The amounts of fibres in the concrete were 0.11%, 0.17% or 0.22% in volume for polypropylene fibres and 0.25%, 0.38% or 0.51% in volume for steel fibres. The amounts of fibres in concrete with a cocktail of polypropylene and steel fibres were 0.49, 0.60, 0.62 and 0.73%, in volume. The thermal stability, the initial and residual mechanical properties (compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity), the porosity and the mass loss of the studied concrete mixes were investigated.This experimental study shows a way to design a concrete mix in order to improve both the thermal stability and the residual mechanical properties

Group mutual exclusion is an interesting generalization of the mutual exclusion problem. This problem was introduced by Joung, and sorne algorithms for the problem 'have been proposed by incorporating mutual exclusion algorithms. Group mutual exclusion occurs naturally in a situation where a resource can be shared by pro cesses of the same group, but not by pro cesses of different groups. It is also called the "congenial talking philosophers problem" . An example of application interesting is a CD jukebox (documentation, films ...) on Internet : several users wishing to reach same CD will be able to do it at the same time instead of awaiting the end of the request of the other users. Effective solutions, written in the message passing model and based on the quorums on the one hand and the circulation of token on the other hand are presented in this thesis. We tackle also the problem of the mutual exclusion of group for the ad hoc mobile networks and we have proposed an algorithm which ~ sensitive to link formation and link breaking and thus which is suitable for ad hoc mobile networks

Après les maladies cardiovasculaires, les cancers sont la deuxième cause de mortalité dans les pays industrialisés. De nombreux agents antitumoraux sont utilisés en thérapeutique, cependant, leur toxicité et l'émergence de phénomènes de résistance obligent à rechercher de nouveaux composés. Dans le cadre d'une collaboration avec les Laboratoires Pierre Fabre, les sarcodictyines et l'éleuthérobine ont été choisies comme cibles. Le laboratoire s'est engagé dans la mise au point d'une synthèse efficace et modulable afin de l'appliquer à la préparation des produits naturels et d'analogues. La stratégie de synthèse repose sur la préparation initiale d'un cycle A fonctionnalisé et d'un motif C5-C9, en vue de leur couplage en C10. Le cycle A a été fonctionnalisé en C1, avec un parfait contrôle de la stéréosélectivité, via une réaction de formylation électrophile. La synthèse du fragment C5-C9 a été réalisée selon un couplage catalysé par un complexe de palladium, suivi d'une réaction de dihydroxylation ou d'époxydation de Sharpless afin d'introduire les centres stéréogènes C7 et C8. Enfin, un enchaînement C5-C9 a été introduit en C10, sur le cycle A, dans la configuration souhaitée, via une réaction d'allylation. Des intermédiaires avancés d'analogues aromatiques ont également été préparés. Les cyclisations intramoléculaires pour accéder à la molécule finale sont en cours

The HESS experiment consists of a system of telescopes destined to observe cosmic rays. Since the project has achieved a high level of performances, a second phase of the project has been initiated. This implies the addition of a new telescope which is capable of collecting a huge amount of images. As all data collected by the telescope can not be retained because of storage limitations, a new real-time system trigger must be designed in order to select interesting events on the fly. The purpose of this thesis was to propose a trigger solution to efficiently discriminate events captured by the telescope.The first part of this thesis was to develop pattern recognition algorithms to be implemented within the trigger. A processing chain based on neural networks and Zernike moments has been validated. The second part of the thesis has focused on the implementation of the proposed algorithms onto FPGA, taking into account the application constraints in terms of resources and execution time

Cette thèse développe les fondements théoriques d'un nouveau concept d'imagerie tridimensionnelle, basé sur la détection multi-énergétique à haute sensibilité du rayonnement ionisant issu de l'objet sous examen. Ce principe est en rupture avec l'imagerie conventionnelle, car il repose sur la détection des photons diffusés à l'intérieur de l'objet par effet Compton à l'aide d'une caméra gamma, sans collimateur, qui ne nécessite plus de rotation autour de l'objet. La formation des images a été modélisée, d'abord pour la modalité par émission en vue d'applications en imagerie médicale, puis pour la modalité par transmission dans le cadre du Contrôle Non Destructif, et enfin pour un système couplant ces deux modalités. Ces modèles directs ont été validés par des simulations de type Monte Carlo et les reconstructions menées à partir de méthodes algébriques montrent la faisabilité de ce nouveau principe d'imagerie

Ovarian cancer is the most common fatal gynaecological malignancy in western countries. In about 90% of the cases, ovarian cancers arise from the transformation of the ovarian surface epithelium. Cells spread prevalently by a direct extension of the tumour to adjacent tissues and by a shedding of cancer cells from the primary tumour into the peritoneal cavity. Development of ascitic fluids is often observed and allow tumour spheroids transport in the peritoneal cavity. Cell adherence and migration processes during peritoneal dissemination are study. The results provide evidence that vitronectin and its receptors mediate adhesion and migration of ovarian cancer cells to mesothelium. Vitronectin and its receptors could be considered in strategies to prevent peritoneal tumour cell implantation

Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 1 is a rare genetic disease due ta a defect in bile acids secretion provoked by mutations in ATP8B1 gene. PFIC1 patients developed many extra-hepatic manifestations, sorne of them are shared with Cystic Fibrosis patients. Many genes present a low level of expression in PFIC1 patients suggesting that ATP8B1 should regulate these genes; among them was identified CFTR, involved in Cystic fibrosis. The aim of our study was to analyze regulation and detect interactions between CFTR and ATP8B1. We have shown that ATP8B1 protein could be maturated and one of the generated forms is interacting with immature CFTR. Moreover, a segment of ATP8B1 seems to be readdressed to the nucleus to be a gene regulator, explaining the decreased level observed for sorne genes for PFIC1 patients

The goal of this thesis is to propose solutions to improve the performance of the transmission of high data rates, low-costs and low power consumption mobile terminals. Indeed, the increase of the transmission rates makes the channels more and more difficult, and the task of the receivers harder. We are interested in MultiBands OFDM systems because the carrier follows a frequency hopping algorithm allowing to have a great frequency diversity. In that context, we propose in the first part of this work channel equalizers, which are optimal in the mean square sense, benefiting from frequency diversity in order to significantly improve the performance of OFDM systems for very frequency selective channels. In the second part of this work, we propose a 14-bands nimble frequency synthesizer whose components are optimized in order to lower its realization complexity, and to fulfil the MultiBands OFDM requirements in terms of switching time, phase noise, and spectral purity. This new type of frequency synthesizer makes unavoidable the imbalance between the I and Q branches of the transmitter and/or receiver. The third part of this work consists in proposing original algorithms allowing to jointly estimate the channel and digitally compensate for IQ imbalance. These processings, available for any OFDM system, allow to relax the constraints on the analog components

L'objectif de cette these est la definition de l'architecture et la verification des performances d'un calculateur embarque parallele de traitement d'images modulaire et reconfigurable. La chaine de bas et moyen niveau de traitement d'images est basee sur l'extraction de la primitive contour. En outre, nous proposons de nouveaux operateurs d'amincissement, d'etiquetage de regions et de chainage de contours adaptes a une integration materielle temps reel et flot de donnees. Les nouveaux operateurs d'amincissement de contours proposes permettent des realisations sous formes recursives ou non qui s'apparentent aux realisations des filtres de shen et deriche. D'autre part, l'algorithme de chainage de contours se decompose en quatre phases qui sont : l'extraction des segments, le chainage des segments connexes, l'approximation polygonale de chque chaine et l'elimination des chaines inferieures a une tolerance. Les deux dernieres etapes reduisent pour l'une le nombre de sommets de chaque chaine, pour l'autre le nombre de chaines

L'objectif de cette thèse est de mieux comprendre la structure de ce champ, connu principalement par les puits de production, grâce à la première sismique 3D récemment acquise et en intégrant les informations fournies par la sismique de puits. Étant donné l'importance des pendages, les réflexions en sismique de puits zéro offset sont attendues principalement sur les composantes horizontales. Une méthode originale d'orientation des 3 composantes est employée et les résultats confirment la présence de réflecteurs pentés. Les résultats migrés en profondeur sont plus précis dans le recouvrement mais la zone réservoir n'est pas améliorée, car les images temps ne permettent pas de mesurer les pendages et courbures résiduelles dans la zone d'intérêt en raison de forts multiples et d'un niveau de bruit important. Une nouvelle technique prototype de migration PSTM, permettant une sélection de l'azimut, du pendage géologique et la recherche automatique du meilleur pendage locale est présentée

This dissertation aims at improving ADSL downstream reach and rate. The first part details the transmission scheme, the propagation channel and crosstalk noises. The second part introduces and analyzes a NEXT crosstalk canceller based on a “noise alone reference” at the receiver. A per sub-carrier algorithm then optimizes each tone SNR. After a stochastic study and field performances, we observed that this solution increases the average tone SNR by 3dB.The last part presents a new method called Clustering Modulation which achieves rate and reach improvements irrespective of the noise environment. This technique collects unloaded tones into “clusters”, loaded with the same information. A cluster is equivalent to a virtual tone, carrying 2 bits of information and ensuring the mandatory bit error rate. By this simple tones aggregation the unused DMT capacity can be reduced up to 75%

The Resistance of magnetic material is composed of several sources of diffusion, whose magnetic source defines by Kasuya like coming from the disorder in the lattice of spin. The first theory explaining the behavior at the temperature of transition is stated by De Gennes and Friedel. Their easy way consists in replacing the probability of diffusion by the function of correlation. This theory makes it possible to understand the behavior of ferromagnetic metals, but do not explain the magnetic semiconductors. The very old problem is started again by the discovery of giant magneto-resistance (GMR). In this thesis, we use the Monte Carlo method to study the transport of spin in ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic films and in multilayer magnetic ones. Of these results we build a theory based on Boltzmann's equation and on the notion of the magnetic clusters. This model brings another vision and gives a clear physical interpretation

Cette thèse s'inscrit dans l'étude et le développement de systèmes de vision inspirés du vivant. Elle propose une formalisation constructiviste de l'approche sensori-motrice des mécanismes perceptifs dans le cadre des systèmes dynamiques. La perception est définie par une fonction d'énergie liée à l'existence d'attracteurs sensori-moteurs créés par l'apprentissage de lois stables liant les sensations et les actions. Cette formalisation définit le rôle de l'apprentissage, du corps et renouvelle le statut des objets. De plus, ces travaux développent le modèle d'une brique architecturale regroupant un ensemble minimal de fonctionnalités pour l'apprentissage d'invariants sensori-moteurs. L'architecture obtenue, appliquée à un robot autonome permet à celui-ci d'exhiber différents comportements en face d'objets (suivi, "reaching"...). Enfin, ces travaux étudient comment l'approche sensori-motrice peut aider à concevoir des implémentations temps réel

We have studied quantum algorithms with the purpose of calculating a matrix permanent with a quantum computer. After constructing some algorithms, we started to study the quantum equivalent of a random walk. These walks have been introduced hoping to build new quantum algorithms from them. We started by generalizing the existing model of quantum walk and started a classification of the walks defined on Cayley graphs of the simplest groups. We studied then quantum walks over the hypercube and simple lattices in one and two dimensions and we obtained an analytical expression for the wave function, in order to explore numerically quantities such as the hitting time and the variance. Finally, we also extended two existing theorems about the existence of quantum scalar walks and about the weak limit of the walk. These results enable us to consider the classification of more complex graphs with an aim of obtaining structural information on the quantum sub-algorithms that can be constructed
