The renowned Bonn history professor Karl Simrock's "neuhochdeutsche" translation of this Middle High German text was orig. publ. in 1826 (Halle, O. Hendel, 319 p.), & became the most influential modern German text version, with numerous reprints well into the 20th century. It was based on & ill. with plates from the Hohenems-Lassberg Nibelungenhandschrift. -- Hesse Publishers in Leipzig had also issued Simrock's "Nibelungenlied" transl. two years earlier, in 1907, as Bd. 5 of Klee's of Simrock works, "Ausgewählte Werke in zwölf Bänden: mit Einleitungen und einer Biographie des Dichters; mit Simrocks Bildnis und einem Stammbuchblatt als Handschriftprobe." This ed. (12v. in 4) is also extant in Dafoe. -- [Note: the present 1994 recon record of this book was upgraded & reclassed in LC, Apr. 2009]
