International Equivalence in Student Performance: Implications from the Iea for International Schools by Mark Crouch( Book )

1 edition published in 1980 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

International Schools are organized in countries throughout the world to serve students whose parents are employed away from their home country. The purpose of this study was to identify generalizations in research about the equivalence of academic performance on an international basis. The study considered research conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (iea) that involved testing students in reading comprehension, literature, science, mathematics, civic education, French as a foreign language, and English as a foreign language. National research centers were organized to conduct the studies in each country in the sample and over 300 experts, 240,000 students and their teachers, and 9,700 schools were involved in the project. Common denominators affecting the achievement of students from various countries appear to be the student's verbal ability, the effect of home and community background, the amount of time spent studying a subject, and strong attitudes supportive of education.
