Die römischen Wand- und Deckenmalereien aus Saalfelden/Wiesersberg by Barbara Tober( Book )

3 editions published in 2015 in German and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The frescoes from Saalfelden-Wieserberg are the most important discoveries of Roman wall painting from a villa rustica in Salzburg. The frescoes depict, next to a Gigantomachy, the kind of "wild animal hunt" that took place in the Roman amphitheater. At the corners, life-size depictions of the four winds can be seen. The wall and ceiling paintings show the need for representation and for luxurious living displayed by a Roman villa owner who lived more than 1800 years ago in Saalfelden. Although the painting's uniqueness in Salzburg adds to its value, its significance goes far beyond state and national borders. The ceiling painting at Saalfelden is, along with the decoration found at Lauriacum (Enns), the only large piece of figurative Roman ceiling painting that has been preserved and restored. The general scarcity of figurative ceiling painting north of the Alps underlines its great value and shows what great luck it is that such a piece is preserved in Saalfelden

ART ROYAL Meisterzeichnungen aus dem Louvre( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in German and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Exhibition: Salzburg Museum, Austria (09.06.-03.09.2047)
