Winthrop Murray Crane (1853-1920) was born in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, the son of Zenas Marshall Crane. He was a paper manufacturer and politian. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, 1897-1899; Governor of Massachusetts, 1900-1902; and United States senator, 1904-1913. He married Josephine P. Boardman in 1906
