Camanchaca by Diego Zúñiga( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in Dutch and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A long drive across Chile's Atacama desert, traversing "the worn-out puzzle" of a broken family-a young man's corrosive intimacy with his mother, the obtrusive cheer of his absentee father, his uncle's unexplained death-occupies the heart of this novel. Camanchaca is a low fog pushing in from the sea, its moisture sustaining a near-barren landscape. Camanchaca is the discretion that makes a lifelong grief possible. Sometimes, the silences are what bind us. Diego Zúñiga (born 1987) is a Chilean author and journalist. He is the author of two novels and the recipient of the Juegos Literarios Gabriela Mistral and the Chilean National Book and Reading Council Award. He lives in Santiago de Chile. Megan McDowell's translations include books by Alejandro Zambra, Arturo Fontaine, Lina Meruane, and Mariana Enriquez, and have been published in the New Yorker, the Paris Review, Tin House, and McSweeney's, among others. She lives in Santiago, Chile"--

1 edition published in 2018 in Dutch and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Como suele ocurrir con el género testimonial, el libro difumina las fronteras entre la realidad y la ficción. No hay una forma segura de determinar cuánto es verdadero y cuánto inventado o literarizado en el libro de Libertella"--Danilo Raá

Propulsion technology development : design and evaluation of a submerged water jet propulsion concept for a fast 90 m enlarged OPV( Book )

1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

In the framework of the V603 'Platform technology Development' programme directed by DMO, MARIN is researching the potential merits regarding signature reduction of new, waterjet based propulsion concepts. This project will provide map the technical risks and gaps in design knowledge associated with the application of these concepts in naval vessels. In this report the results are described of the application of fully submerged waterjets on a twin waterjet variant of a 90 m OPV. An underwater discharge is proposed as a potentially attractive concept that combines the low noise characteristics of a shrouded propeller and the elimination of splash noise of a conventional waterjet system. A new test procedure is tested that has provided important information on the extrapolation of model test results of shrouded propulsors and of cavitation inception characteristics of water jet impellers. The results show that the design of the waterjet impellers and the integration of the waterjet gondolas with the stern need further study before superior cavitation inception speeds and acceptable powering performance can be attained. A better understanding should be obtained on the gap cavitation phenomenon and the scaling of this type of cavitation from model tests

Influence of water quality on bubble behaviour related with ship signature : a literature survey: final report by J Bosschers( Book )

1 edition published in 2006 in Dutch and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Signature of surface ships is influenced by the white water formation as caused by the breaking bow wave, the flow along the hull an the wake of the ship. For example, the air bubbles by the breaking wave forming the white water radiate noise which increases the accoustic signature. Both hydroacoustic and hydrodynamic aspects of this phenomenon are not well understood, although a vast amount of literature ia available on bubble behaviour in general. The present report presents a literature survey on the influence of water quality, especially salinity and surfactants, on bubble behaviour. Discussed are the properties of sea water, surface tension, bubble production, bubble coalescence, bubble break-up and bubble rise velocity. Dedicated experiments on the influence of water quality on bubble behaviour are also discussed
