This paper presents an introduction and comparison of some of the most promising development towards adaptive service-centred applications. Such applications can be seen as the next logical step in the evolution of services, by leveraging QoS users will be able to differentiate services not only by their given functionality, but also by their non-functional aspects, such as performance, reliability and execution price. By introducing semanticsfor services trough OWL-S we will also be able to automate the discovery, invocation, composition and interoperation of web services
