Slovenia's accession to the European Union has radically changed the agr-food sector's economic environment. Such changes are expected to cause significant economic pressure and actuate adjustments in these sensitive activities. This paper evaluates the economic impacts of EU accession using a Computable General Equilibrium model. Simulations of the post-accession economic environment clarify the expectations by revealing an evident difference in impacts between agriculture and the food industry. Aggregate value added in agriculture will remain unchanged with some sectoral restructuring whereas the impacts for the food industry are deteriorative. The main determinant of negative effects is the change of international trade-particularly the reduction of export demand in third markets

Raziskava poskuša poglobiti razumevanje percepcije trgovskih blagovnih znamk hrane pri slovenskih potrošnikih. Izvedeno je bilo senzorično vrednotenje vzorcev kislih kumaric pri dveh različnih vrstah eksperimentalnih razmer, kjer je bil ocenjevan učinek informacije o blagovni znamki na hedonično vrednotenje. Test je bil osredotočen na razlikovanje trgovskih blagovnih znamk in proizvajalčevih blagovnih znamk. Rezultati so pokazali, da slovenski potrošniki trgovske blagovne znamke vrednotijo kot cenovno ugodno alternativno izbiro primerljive kakovosti v primerjavi s proizvajalčevimi blagovnimi znamkami. Statistično značilni učinki nagnjenosti k izbiri trgovskih blagovnih znamk so bili potrjeni za dejavnike: razpoložljivi dohodek in velikost družine. Raziskava potrjuje hipotezo, da informacija o blagovni znamki statistično značilno vpliva na senzorično vrednotenje vzorcev pri potrošnikih. Učinek asimilacije je bil potrjen tudi pri trgovskih blagovnih znamkah
What determines integrated and organic fruit and vegetable consumption in Slovenia? by Aleš Kuhar( )

A country-wide survey related to purchasing behaviour of organic and integrated fruit and vegetables has been prepared for Slovenia. An ordered probit model of consumer choice was developed on the basis of survey results to quantify various determinants of purchase frequency for organic and integrated fruit and vegetables. Results show that purchase of analysed categories is most significantly influenced by their availability in retail outlets. Other significant determinants are household income, health and environmental considerations, and perceived importance of produce visual attractiveness. Results of the study support implementation of effective distribution strategies, but also targeted knowledge and awareness raising activities
Uspešnost poslovanja slovenske živilskopredelovalne industrije v obdobju pred pristopom v EU = Slovenian food processing industry business performance in the EU pre-accession period by Aleš Kuhar( )

Živilskopredelovalna industrija je v procesu pridruževanja Slovenije k EU deležna izrazitih sprememb političnega in ekonomskega okolja. Te na podjetniški ravni zahtevajo investicijske vložke ter prilagoditev upravljavskih strategij. Analiza uspešnosti poslovanja slovenske živilskopredelovanlne industrije kaže v obdobju med letoma 1997 in 2000 neugodne trende. Produktivnost, dodana vrednost na zaposlenega in kazalniki donosnosti so se v analiziranem obdobju nenehno poslabševali. V letu 2000 so slednji za živilskopredelovalno industrijo prvič pod povprečjem predelovalnih dejavnosti, pri ostalih kazalnikih pa sicer še obstaja določena prednost. Ugotovljeni deficiti elementov konkurenčnosti živilskopredelovalne panoge nakazujejo možnost negativnih ekonomskih učinkov ob pridružitvi Slovenije k EU
Vertical coordination in post-transition red meat supply chain : the case of Slovenia by Urška Kodelja( )

The key focus of the paper is to analyse the attitudes of pig and cattle breeders towards the collective action typical of contemporary supply chains. We investigated in detail the benefits or burdens from participation in a vertical chain. The data were collected in a survey including 313 farmers engaged in pig and cattle production. Respondents were asked to evaluate statements related to organizational forms of collective action and its benefits, express their attitude towards the supply chain coordination, evaluate currently established relationships, etc. The hierarchical cluster analysis was used to group the respondents regarding their agreement levels on different aspects of cupply chain relationships. Other parts of the questionnaire were used to form and describe cluster profiles. The results have shown that obsolete and inefficient organizational forms of supply chain relationships prevail in Slovenian pig and cattle breeding sectors, however, farmers significantly differ according to their attitude towards vertical coorination. Moreover, alternative forms of collective activities are set up in order to overcome weakness and inefficiency of the prevalent vertical chains
