The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between: various Harroun family members and friends (1861-1952), Phyllis Harroun and the Museum of New Mexico (1983-198), and various Houghton family members (1808-1840). One subject of note in Nellie Harroun's correspondence with William and Mary Harroun is the 1906 San Francisco, California earthquake and fire. Genealogical materials contain family histories of the Harroun family and Houghton family, a bible with genealogical notations, and a Daughters of the American Revolution application for membership complete with a narrative version of Mary Houghton Harroun's family tree. Miscellaneous personal papers include Phyllis Harroun's medical and membership certificates from various institutions. Also included is a copy of William S. Harroun's will and a miscellaneous publication
