Scott family ancestry of the author, William Scott (1733?-1802), M.D. He was born in the chapelry of Falstone, in the parish of Symonburn, Northumberland, England, the oldest of twelve children of Walter and Jane Robson Scott. He married Martha Fenwick, daughter of Rev. Mr. Edward Fenwick, in 1759 at Stamfordham, Northumberland. They had four children. William Scott was a 15th generation descendant of John Scott (fl. 1288), younger son of the Baron or Laird of Buckcleugh or Buccleugh, one of the wardens of the Scotish border
