Environmental change, adaptation and migration : bringing in the region( )

3 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 146 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In recent years, migration and mobility have increasingly been promoted as one possible adaptive strategy within climate change scenarios and environmental change, and even constituting a solution for locally problematic situations. This edited collection presents empirical and theoretical insights into the current debate on environmental change, adaptation, and migration by analysing these issues from a regional perspective. Individual chapters focus on countries in the global South which are already subject to ongoing environmental degradation: Sudan, Mexico, the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Ghana. People living in these countries are likely to suffer from growing ecological inequalities. The contributors call for a greater involvement of the local population in empirical studies, for the acknowledgment of their agency, and for a systematic link between development studies and migration studies. The book attempts to overcome the strongly policy-driven discourse encouraging the research community to focus on the regional setting."--Pub. desc

Management : a critical text by Liz Fulop( )

1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Management: A Critical Text identifies the major issues that managers need to understand and respond to in the context of dramatic changes in the world economy. As the nature of management becomes less and less certain, the forces of international competition, change in both public and private sectors, economic deregulation, industrial restructuring and technological transformation have also been accompanied by changes in social values. Other cultures are now part of our everyday experience, and respecting and thriving on diversity is a major management challenge. Ethics and social responsiveness are no longer a luxury, but essential components of the management task and accountability. These developments necessitate a rethinking of management and they pose major challenges to conventional ideas of leadership and managing strategic change." "This book presents students and practising managers from all walks of life with new, exciting and creative ways of thinking and learning about management."--Jacket
