Main description: Die Schrift Peri psychês (De anima) besteht aus drei Büchern, es werden Aspekte der Erkenntnistheorie, der Philosophie des Geistes und der Handlungstheorie thematisiert. -- Schon das erste Buch kennzeichnet die Schrift als eine naturwissenschaftliche, indem sie von den Meinungen, Positionen und Argumente der Früheren fast nur die der Physiker aufgreift und diese auf ihre Stichhaltigkeit untersucht. Dabei stellt Aristoteles fest, dass "Seele" bei diesen das bezeichnet, was für das Lebendigsein, die Wahrnehmung und die Selbstbewegung der Lebewesen ursächlich verantwortlich ist. -- Im zweiten und dritten Buch legt Aristoteles seine eigenen Theorie dar. Nach grundsätzlichen Bestimmungen über die Seele erläutert er ihre vegetativen und biologischen Funktionen, sodann das Denkvermögen und das Bewegungsvermögen der Seele. Hierbei unterscheidet er vor allem: das "ernährende" Seelenvermögen, die Wahrnehmung, die Vernunft und die Fortbewegung. -- Nach diesen Seelenvermögen teilt er die Lebewesen ein. Alles Lebendige, hierunter fallen auch die Pflanzen, besitzt das "ernährende" Seelenvermögen (verantwortlich auch für die Fortpflanzung). Nur die Lebewesen (die Tiere) haben ein Wahrnehmungsvermögen, ein Teil der Tiere weist das Vermögen zur Fortbewegung auf. Jedoch der Mensch allein besitzt Vernunft. Hinzu kommen das Vorstellungsvermögen (phantasía) sowie das "Strebevermögen" (orexis), auf dessen Status Aristoteles nicht näher eingeht. -- Die ,Modernität' dieser Schrift des Aristoteles liegt unter anderem in der sorgfältigen Analyse der einzelnen Sinne, wie die verschiedenen Sinneseindrücke produziert werden und wie sie wirken
