What Affects Employee Cross-selling Behavior : the Role of Job Demand, Customer Incivility, and High Performance Work Systems by Can Ouyang( )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This study sought to establish a multilevel framework to examine the effects job demand, customer incivility, and high performance work system (HPWS) on cross-selling behavior among front-line customer service employees. I hypothesized that job demand and customer incivility negatively influenced employee cross-selling behavior. Furthermore, the use of high performance work system (HPWS) could enhance cross-selling behavior either directly or indirectly by reducing the negative impacts of job demand and customer incivility. To test these hypotheses, I used data from 84 group managers and 366 focal frontline employees in a large Chinese retail company. Results provided partial support for the hypotheses. Consistent with my hypothesis, customer incivility was negatively related to employee cross-selling behavior. However, contradictory to my expectation, the effect of job demand was negative. Finally, HPWS influenced cross-selling behavior by moderating the relationship between customer incivility and behavior
A Study of Self-assessment Accuracy and Personality by Stephanie Jeffer( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The present study examines the relationship between the accuracy of self-assessment of leadership competencies, personality, and demographic information including academic major and gender. The study looks at data collected from a leadership assessment center conducted in the honors college of a large northeastern public university. These data have been analyzed in terms of the consistency between self-assessment ratings prior to the leadership assessment and its correspondence with ratings given to the students by trained assessors. The study compares ratings on Bartram's Great Eight Competencies and was further analyzed as a function of the participant's major and gender. Based on earlier research it was hypothesized that the participants from majors in the college of liberal arts will be more accurate in their competency ratings than students majoring in business and engineering. It is also predicted that men will rate themselves higher, reflecting a degree of over-confidence in their abilities, relative to women in terms of their leadership abilities. A research question was also explored directed at whether or not there are personality characteristics that enhance the accuracy of self-ratings

The effects of virtual reality immersion on level of subject interest : Comparing desktop and head-mounted display conditions by Jose Nathan Kutz( )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Over the past year, the popularity of Virtual Reality (VR) has exploded. The VR industry netted over 7 billion dollars in 2013, which was a 4 billion dollar increase from 2012 (Plunkett, 2014). Google and Facebook each invested over 2 billion in Virtual reality in 2013 (Gelles, 2014). New Head-Mounted Display (HMD) systems, which provide realistic VR experiences, are lightweight, portable, and user-friendly, dropping in cost the past few years (Cakmakci, 2006; Rolland, 2000). Multiple studies have concluded specific benefits of HMD VR technology including perceptions of realism, involvement of participants, and learning outcomes (Abulrub, 2013; Bayarri, 1996; Fast, 2004; Li, 2005; Santos, 2009; Sielhorst, 2004;Stone, 2013). The current study investigated the effects of HMD systems on participant's interest. Change in participant interest and immersion were measured in the current study. Analyses revealed that immersion through VR did not did not change interest level significantly (mean=5.15, SD= 1.084, p=.73). However, the results showed that HMD systems were significantly more immersive than a desktop condition (mean=3.83, SD= 1.46, p=.04)

The search is on : Utilizing rigorous assessment to identify high potential employees by Nicole Ginther( )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Accurately identifying high potential employees is imperative for a successful talent management strategy, however there is a paucity of research on this special form of personnel selection. Using the Leadership Blueprint (Church & Silzer, 2013) as a predictive framework, a criterion validation study, which utilized a sample of corporate employees, was designed to empirically determine whether the proposed dimensions were able to identify high potential employees. The study employed a concurrent design and sampled employees at job levels higher than the ultimate target audience for future assessment and forecasting. The results of the study suggested that cognitive abilities, motivation, and past experiences were important predictors of potential. The implications of these findings and the serious need for additional research on predicting potential are discussed

Follower perspectives of "just right" : Toward a theory of leader versatility by Robert Reimer( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This study employed a person-centered approach to classify leaders with respect to measures of forceful, enabling, strategic, and operational behaviors. The sampled leaders (N =3,249) are representative of a variety of organizations across North America. Broadly defined, versatility involves leadership behaviors that compliment dynamic conditions. This definition intimates the leader's intentional regulation of behaviors in the real-world milieu of ever-changing workplace conditions coupled with enduring expectations for high performance. Latent profile analysis provides evidence for four types of leaders: individuating, collaborative, directive, and domineering. Theoretical arguments for personality acting as an antecedent to versatility types are offered. Meaningful associations were identified between the types and outcome measures (i.e., supervisory ratings of leader effectiveness, leader ratings of team performance, and measures of team climate). Theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed
