Als schließlich doch der Knecht Matti zum Schwiegersohn bestimmt wird, unterzieht Matti die Tochter des Reichen einem Examen, in dem sie beweisen soll, ob sie ihn glücklich machen kann oder nicht. In einer grotesken Schlußszene werden die Motive zusammengefaßt: arm und reich können nicht zusammenkommen
