Participants in an airborne seminar were teams of individuals from sixteen institutions engaged in the early stages of planning and design. Novel and exciting features of each of the nineteen institutions visited during the "fly-in" were noted. A brief summary of the unique architectural features and facilities in each institution is given, some highlights being high-rise facilities, a specialized auditorium with modeling ramps, computer equipment, flexible facilities, an exposed concrete interior, brick construction, honeycomb design, study carrels distributed throughout corridors, an airwell, a courtyard-effect lounge, a converted department store college, an automatic library system, an open library community service center, and rooftop recreational spaces. INVESTIGATIONS WERE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE AIR FLOW PATTERNS AND INFILTRATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MILITARY-TYPE BUILDINGS BY MEANS OF SCALE MODELS. The people of the facilities planning process are grouped into two teams: the educational team and the design team. The educational team is described as consisting of the institutional governing body, chief administrator, one or more administrative assistants, department heads, faculty committees, and educational consultants. The design team consists of campus planners, architects, engineers, landscape architects, interior designers, and special consultants. The processes are de"cribed as site selection, campus planning and architecture. Using the people involved in planning on a vertical scale and the processes on a horizontal scale a time chart for monitoring the construction process is illustrated and described.
