Reproductive health indicators : guidelines for their generation, interpretation and analysis for global monitoring by World Health Organization( )

8 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 965 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sexual and reproductive health is key to enhancing development. Hence, major international conferences and summits aiming to promote development including the 1994 International Conference of Population and Development (ICPD) and the Millennium Summit in 2000 have set a range of goals and targets related to sexual and reproductive health. To monitor progress towards the achievement of these goals and targets, a set of indicators have been identified by experts. This book presents 17 key indicators of sexual and reproductive health outcomes and those that measure access to or use of sexual and reproductive health services. It briefly reviews the theoretical and practical considerations related to indicators, and presents definitions, data sources, collection methods, periodicity of collection, disaggregation, use, limitations and common pitfalls for each of the included indicators. National public health administrators and health programme managers could find this book useful in undertaking standardized monitoring and evaluation of their sexual and reproductive health targets and goals. Standardization of monitoring and evaluation at the country level will facilitate monitoring of progress at the global level.--Publisher's description

Selected practice recommendations for contraceptive use by World Health Organization( Book )

17 editions published between 2002 and 2016 in English and held by 373 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This document is part of the process for improving the quality of care in family planning. Specifically, it is one of two evidence-based cornerstones (guidance documents) of the World Health Organization's (WHO's) initiative to develop and implement family planning guidelines for national programmes. The first cornerstone, the Medical eligibility criteria for contraceptive use (MEC, now in its fifth edition), provides thorough information and guidance on the safety of various contraceptive methods for use in the context of specific health conditions and characteristics. This document, Selected practice recommendations for contraceptive use, third edition (SPR third edition), is the second cornerstone; it provides guidance for how to use contraceptive methods safely and effectively once they are deemed to be medically appropriate. For recommendations issued in the SPR, safety considerations include common barriers to safe, correct and consistent use of contraception and the benefits of preventing unintended or unwanted pregnancy

Medical management of abortion by World Health Organization( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 105 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Medical abortion care encompasses the management of various clinical conditions including spontaneous and induced abortion (both viable and non-viable pregnancies), incomplete abortion and intrauterine fetal demise, as well as post-abortion contraception. Medical management of abortion generally involves either a combination regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol or a misoprostol-only regimen. Medical abortion care plays a crucial role in providing access to safe, effective and acceptable abortion care. In both high- and low-resource settings, the use of medical methods of abortion have contributed to task shifting and sharing and more efficient use of resources. Moreover, many interventions in medical abortion care, particularly those in early pregnancy, can now be provided at the primary-care level and on an outpatient basis, which further increases access to care. Medical abortion care reduces the need for skilled surgical abortion providers and offers a non-invasive and highly acceptable option to pregnant individuals
