Materials include an account book of Whaling Voyage No. 2 to the Pacific Ocean and back. The ship, captained by Benjamin A. Gardner departed from Bristol, Rhode Island in 1837 and appears to have returned to Bristol between 1838 and 1839. The purpose of the voyage was procurement of sperm oil and any other oil deemed "proper." The account book includes entries for amounts advanced before sailing and amounts paid back in oil when the ship returned, a transcription of a letter to Captain Gardner from William Wolf who appears to have funded the outfitting of the ship and was wishing the captain a healthy and prosperous voyage, and a crew list. Also included are various drawings, calling cards, and poems. Also contains a folder with a list of crew members for Whaling Voyage No. 3, and several records for Voyage No. 4 to the Pacific Ocean and elsewhere, including an invoice of merchandise shipped on board the Ship Corinthian, disbursements, and a memorandum of credits
