There is a growing understanding that the progress of the conventional silicon technology will reach its physical, engineering and economic limits in near future. This fact, however, does not mean that progress in computing will slow down. What will take us beyond the silicon era are new nano-technologies that are being pursued in university and corporate laboratories around the world. In particular, molecular switching devices and systems that will self-assemble through molecular recognition are being designed and studied. Many labora­ tories are now testing new types of these and other reversible switches, as well as fabricating nanowires needed to connect circuit elements together. But there are still significant opportunities and demand for invention and discovery be­ fore nanoelectronics will become a reality. The actual mechanisms of transport through molecular quantum dots and nanowires are of the highest current ex­ perimental and theoretical interest. In particular, there is growing evidence that both electron-vibron interactions and electron-electron correlations are impor­ tant. Für neuartige Photovoltaikkonzepte wie die "Zwischenbandsolarzelle" oder die "Heiße-Ladungsträger-Solarzelle" werden lange Lebensdauern für heiße photogenerierte Ladungsträgern benötigt. Dies würde es erlauben, die zusätzliche Energie bezüglich der Bandkanten zu sammeln. Unter diesem Blickwinkel wurden die elektronische Struktur und die Elektronenrelaxation in Halbleitern untersucht, mit Schwerpunkt auf Geometrie und Oberfläche der Materialien. Beides beeinflusst die elektronische Struktur und kann somit Auswirkungen auf die Elektron-Phonon-Wechselwirkung haben, welche die Hauptursache für das Abkühlen der Ladungsträger in den meisten Materialien ist. Die Rolle der Geometrie wurde mittels zeitaufgelöster Zweiphotonen-Photoemissionsspektroskopie (tr-2PPE) an Hand von CdSe Nanostrukturen analysiert; im Speziellen 0D-Quantenpunkte und 2D-Nanoplättchen. Für Quantenpunkte wird gezeigt, dass Streuung über Volumenzustände nicht der dominante Energieverlustmechanismus ist. Stattdessen wird die Abkühlrate wesentlich durch die umgebenden Liganden und die Umhüllung bestimmt und es finden sich Hinweise auf Streumechanismen über Oberflächenzustände. An Nanoplättchen hingegen wird eine schnelle Relaxation beobachtet, unabhängig von Dicke, Liganden oder einer CdS Hülle. Die Energieverlustrate wird mit einem Modell für LO-Phononstreuung in Quantentrögen beschrieben. Die Bedeutung der Oberflächen für die Relaxation von Elektronen wird exemplarisch an III-V Halbleitern untersucht, welche mit metallorganischer Gasphasenepitaxie präpariert wurden. Studien mit 2PPE an GaP(100) offenbaren mehrere Oberflächenzustände an zwei verschiedenen Oberflächenrekonstruktionen. Anhand der zugehörigen Energien konnten markante Merkmale in Reflexions-Anisotropie-Spektren erklärt werden. Tr-2PPE Messungen an InP(100) wurden durchgeführt, um das Streuen von Elektronen zwischen 3D-Volumenzuständen und einem bestimmen Oberflächenzustand (C2) zu untersuchen. Die Streuraten wurden bestimmt und das Abkühlen von Volumenelektronen wurde für den Fall mit und ohne C2 untersucht und verglichen. All diese Resultate zeigen schnelle Ladungsträgerrelaxation. Ein photovoltaisches Konzept wird präsentiert, basierend auf Interssubbandübergängen, welche eine schnelle Trennung heißer Ladungsträger implementiert um die kurzen Lebenszeiten zu kompensieren. Dieses Design wurde in Form einer Tandemsolarzelle realisiert, in welcher ein InP pin-Übergang sowie ein photovoltaischer Intersubbandabsorber aus InGaAs/InAlAs/InAs Quantentrögen kombiniert sind. Das prinzipielle Funktionieren dieses Konzepts kann experimentell bestätigt und die grundsätzlichen Charakteristiken mit einem Ersatzschaltbild beschrieben werden

Research in psychology generates complex data and often requires unique statistical analyses. These tasks are often very specific, so appropriate statistical models and methods cannot be found in accessible Bayesian tools. As a result, the use of Bayesian methods is limited to researchers and students that have the technical and statistical fundamentals that are required for probabilistic programming. Such knowledge is not part of the typical psychology curriculum and is a difficult obstacle for psychology students and researchers to overcome. The goal of the bayes4psy package is to bridge this gap and offer a collection of models and methods to be used for analysing data that arises from psychological experiments and as a teaching tool for Bayesian statistics in psychology. The package contains the Bayesian t-test and bootstrapping along with models for analysing reaction times, success rates, and tasks utilizing colors as a response. It also provides the diagnostic, analytic and visualization tools for the modern Bayesian data analysis workflow

Quasiparticle relaxation dynamics in cuprates and lifetimes of low-energy states : femtosecond data from underdoped to overdoped YBCO and mercury compounds( )

We show that low-energy spectral features in the cuprates can be separated into different components by the measurement of the recombination dynamics of different low-energy excitations in real-time using femtosecond laser spectroscopy. Quasiparticle (QP) recombination across the gap and intra-gap localized state relaxation processes exhibit qualitatively different time- and temperature-dependences. The relaxation measurements also show the existence of two distinct coexisting energy gaps near optimum doping and in the overdoped region, one more or less temperature independent (which exists above and below T[sub]c) and one which closes at T[sub]c in a mean-field like fashion. Thus systematic studies of QP recombination as a function of doping and temperature suggest that the ground state of the cuprates is a mixed Boson-Fermion system with localised states present over the entire region of the phase diagram
