Luciano Fabro : 100 disegni by Luciano Fabro( Book )

11 editions published in 2013 in 3 languages and held by 98 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Luciano Fabro (born 1936 in Turin, died 2007 in Milan) used simple materials from everyday life in his sculptural works as well as valuable classical material such as marble, bronze or Murano glass. Some of the pieces from the workgroup that consists of the geographical contours of his native land he converted into gold-plated brass and bronze or combined Murano glass with precious silk fabric, as in the large installation 'Piedi', 1971. In the same way he understood how to join a simple sheet of paper, a copper pole or a twine of ivy into delicate, poignant forms and make of them a new vocabulary. In the formal diversity of his work, drawings assumed a special status. They were for Fabro, as for other artists of his generation, a significant conceptual tool. However, he didn't sell his drawings but gave them away, so that the examples shown in this book have been closed to the public till now
Medardo Rosso by Medardo Rosso( Book )

5 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 94 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

With his figures, Italian sculptor Medardo Rosso succeeded in contributing decisively to the development of modern sculpture. The artist's points of focus were the moment when the sculpture was perceived and the fusion of the figure with its surroundings. He worked almost exclusively on portrait heads; wax became a substitute for bronze, allowing him to work the surface of the sculpture to its finest perfection and to use different hues, adequate expression for the fleetingness of the apparition. And they are fleeting--one hardly knows if the portrayed faces are receding from the sculpture's surface or pushing up against it. In Paris, where Rosso spent the greater part of his life, he found understanding friends in Edgar Degas and the collector Henri Rouart, while friendship with Rodin miscarried because of the rivalry between the two sculptors. At around the turn of the century, Rosso's sculptures could be seen at many large European exhibitions; the Futurists would soon hold him up as a model. This publication, a scholarly survey of the artist's work, makes clear that although Rosso limited himself to very few motifs, their many different versions translated into independent works
Matt Mullican : rubbings : catalogue, 1984-2016 by Matt Mullican( Book )

6 editions published in 2016 in English and German and held by 93 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

One of Matt Mullican's central and most consequential inventions, the so-called "Rubbings," are a kind of "frottages," a technique the artist uses to produce specific pictures.0From the beginning of his career, Mullican looked for pictures that would not be paintings; thus, he used banners, the traditional carriers of signs, posters, and, in 1984, he realized his first "Rubbing." He used a cardboard plate on which the canvas was placed; by rubbing with an oil stick the cardboard reliefs, forms became visible on the canvas. This way, Mullican was able to transfer complex representations onto canvas; the result is a picture of something that is not present, it is a form of copy. The cardboard plates may be used for other works and so the imagery can reappear in different configurations. Each "Rubbing" is a single work and at the same time a reproduction, like a print, part of a sequence which contains picture elements from different sources. 0Following the "Rubbings" from 1984 to recent times, it becomes visible that they represent the motives and themes the artist worked with over the years. The sequence of the "Rubbings" appears therefore like a diary of Mullican's work. 0The book presents a catalogue of the "Rubbings" on canvas from 1984 to 2016. It comprises around 500 works, documented by images and catalogue entries
