Practical exercises in parasitology( Book )

6 editions published between 2001 and 2005 in English and held by 234 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Parasitology is an immensely important aspect of biological science. This manual presents fifty easy-to-follow laboratory exercises for student practical (lab) classes. All the exercises are tried and tested by the authors and are used in a wide variety of university undergraduate teaching departments. They range from relatively simple observational exercises, using local materials and requiring little in the way of equipment, to more technically demanding experiments in physiology and molecular parasitology. Each exercise includes a list of necessary equipment, consumables and sources of parasite material, instructions for staff and students, including aspects of safety, expected results and some analysis provided by questions; there are ideas for further exploration and information on similar exercises, and lists of selected further reading. This book should be an essential purchase for all teachers of parasitology at the university undergraduate level and for students taking laboratory practical classes in the subject

Chemotherapeutic agents in the study of parasites by British Society for Parasitology( Book )

2 editions published in 1973 in English and held by 188 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The very high attendance at the meeting of the British Society for Parasitology in October 1972 testified to the continuing popularity of these symposia. Once again the quality of the contributions and the stimulating discussions they provoked are evidence of the value of these meetings. Chemotherapeutic agents in the study of parasites is a relatively unexplored subject and the papers in this volume provide not only a useful account of the extent of our knowledge, but also an illustration of how much work has still to be done in this field"--Back cover

Exploring parasite genomes( Book )

1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 78 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Information on parasite genomes will be fundamental to the future directions of parasitology research. Complete parasite gene sequence data, currently available for some pathogenic bacteria, will provide essential biological information and clues to novel drug and vaccine targets. The papers in this volume summarize the current state of various parasite genome projects and the bioinformatics of parasite genome analysis. This book covers such topics as pathogenic bacteria, yeasts, trypanosomes and apicomplexan parasites, schistosomes, and nematode pathogens of both humans and plants. The generation and handling of parasite genome data will significantly enhance the understanding of basic parasite biology and will offer novel opportunities to control parasitic diseases in humans, animals, and plants
