Immunological Methods a compendium of basic research techniques being used in one of the largest immunology research institutes, the Basel Institute for Immunology, with particular emphasis given to new methodology. The procedures have been described by individuals judged to be highly expert in their specialties. In many instances the methods developed or adapted to unique uses by the contributors have not previously been described in detail
Cells of immunoglobulin synthesis by Benvenuto Pernis( Book )

Cells of Immunoglobulin Synthesis documents the proceedings of a symposium on """"Cells of Immunoglobulin Synthesis"""" held at Arden House, on the Harriman Campus of Columbia University from June 9-11, 1978. The meeting was the third of the P & S Biomedical Sciences Symposia. Starting with the opening address on B lymphocyte differentiation and the tolerance problem, the remainder of the book presents the contributions made by researchers at the symposium. These contributions are organized into seven parts. Part I contains studies on immunoglobulin genes, messages, and molecules. Part II
Processing and presentation of antigens by Benvenuto Pernis( Book )

11 editions published between 1988 and 2014 in English and held by 334 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Processing and Presentation of Antigens brings together the views of immunologists, biochemists, cell biologists, and virologists who have a common interest in the early phases of the immune response. Antigen processing and presentation comprise a series of events that are much more complex and sophisticated than had been thought for a long time, and constitute an essential part of the biology of the immune response to T-dependent protein antigens. The book is organized into seven parts. Part I discusses the major advances and insights in antigen processing, some results on the interactio

Regulatory T Lymphocytes documents the proceedings of a symposium on """"Regulatory T Lymphocytes"""" held at Arden House on the Harriman Campus of Columbia University from June 8-10, 1979. The meeting was the fourth of the P & S Biomedical Sciences Symposia. Starting with the opening address on regulatory T lymphocytes and their antigen receptors, the remainder of the book presents the contributions made by researchers at the symposium. These contributions are organized into seven parts. Part I contains studies T cell receptors. Part II presents studies on T cell subpopulations. Parts III

Cell Biology of the major histocompatibility complex
The molecular basis of B-cell differentiation and function by M Ferrarini( Book )

10 editions published between 1986 and 1987 in English and held by 248 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The progress in protein and nucleic acid chemistry together with improvements of the previously employed tissue culture techniques have led to the solution of problems such as that of the generation of antibody diversity or of the molecular structure of T and B cell membrane receptor for antigen which had challenged the past generations of immunologists. Thanks to this progress an impressive amount of knowledge has been accumulated on certain cell types that were relatively "mysterious" until recently. The B lymphocyte represents a typical example of such a cell. With these considerations in mind, we have started to organize a NATO summer school on "The molecular basis of B cell differentation and function" that had the specific aim of bringing up to date a selected number of young investigators. During the course, held in Santa Margheri ta Ligure, October 1-11, 1985 it became apparent that rather than a formal school we had organized an informal series of Workshops where both the Faculty members and the participants were discussing their own data in addition to reviewing the general progress in the field. The deep commi ttment of everyone to his research subj ect and the enthusiasm had caused this very successful change in the shape of the course. At the end we asked the members of the Faculty and the participants to write a summary of their data and of their point of view on selected subj ect s
T Lymphocytes : structure, functions, choices by Franco Celada( Book )

13 editions published between 1992 and 1993 in English and held by 209 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains the proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute held in Porto Conte (Alghero), Sardinia, September 15-27, 1991. The A.S. 1. was attended by 86 graduate and postgraduate students from 18 different countries, and was hosted by the newly founded International Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of Porto Conte, directed by Prof. Marcello Siniscalco. The A.S.I. was funded by NATO Scientific Affairs Division, the International Union of Immunological Societies, the European Community (Directorate General for Science, Research and Development), the Italian Research Council, and the San Raffaele Institute of Milano. In addition, a number of students who reside in the U.S. received travel funds from the U.S. National Science Foundation, and the Turkish National Fund provided financial assistance to several students from Turkey. When we decided to organize a course on T lymphocytes, our concern was to reach a balance between the teaching of both the hard core principles and the latest experimental findings of cellular immunology, and the recently expanded interfaces with the not-yetƯ known: hypotheses, speCUlations, new projections to be born from the discussions

Immunological Methods, Volume IV provides information pertinent to the methods in immunological research. This book focuses on cells, clones, and cell lines, as well as on their components and secreted products. Organized into 21 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of hybridoma methodology as the most celebrated immunological method. This text then discusses cell fusion, hybridoma technology, and everything related to monoclonal antibodies. Other chapters consider another molecular biology method, which describes the procedure required for establishing a partitioned cDNA-libra

Immunological reactions in viral hepatitis( Book )

2 editions published between 1967 and 1970 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Two different investigations were performed in the field of the immune reactions in viral hepatitis. The first investigation was performed to ascertain, with immuno-fluorescence, the presence of viral or virus-associated antigens in the liver or in the duodenal mucosa of patients in the acute stage of infectious hepatitis. As a source of antibodies the serum from patients convalescent from the disease was employed, and as a method of demonstration of the antigen-antibody reaction the indirect or 'sandwich' technique was used with fluorescein-conjugated antisera directed against the different human immunoglobulins. In the second investigation it was found that the serum from patients in the acute stage of infectious hepatitis effectively inhibits the mitotic activity of human lymphocytes cultivated 'in vitro' with phytohemagglutinin. The inhibiting factor is absent from the serum of patients convalescent from infectious hepatitis or affected by non infectious hepatic diseases. Apparently the acute infectious hepatitis serum does not block the transformation of PHA-stimulated lymphocytes into blast-like cells nor does reduce the percentage of cells that can be shown, by autoradiography, to incorporate 3H-thymidine. Electron microscopy showed elements with the typical structures of 'blasts' in the cultures performed in the presence of acute hepatitis serum; these cells did not contain structures that could suggest the presence of viral particles.
