The non-existent manuscript : a study of the Protocols of the sages of Zion by Cesare G De Michelis( Book )

11 editions published in 2004 in English and German and held by 230 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The origins of the infamous forgery the Protocols of the Sages of Zion are the subject of much vigorous debate. In this study, Cesare G. De Michelis illuminates its authors and the circumstances of production by focusing on the text itself." "This volume is a revised and expanded edition of the original, which appeared in Italian. Featured is an arguably archetypal Russian text of the Protocols, which De Michelis pieced together from several publications, based on careful textual analysis."--Jacket

Il manoscritto inesistente : i "Protocolli dei savi di Sion" : un apocrifo del XX secolo by Cesare G De Michelis( Book )

9 editions published between 1998 and 2004 in Italian and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Examines the text of the "Protocols of the Sages of Zion, " its linguistic nature, its construction, and the problem of its provenance. Between 1903-05 the "Protocols" appeared in five Russian versions, with great discrepancies; Nilus's version of 1905 was the one that was translated and circulated worldwide. Dismisses the idea that the "Protocols" was compiled by the Russian secret service in France and that it was originally written in French as early as the 1890s. Contends that the Urtext of the "Protocols" was written in 1902-03 in Russian, and in 1903-05 underwent a process of elaboration. Its authorship is unclear. Its broad publication (many editions) may have been supported by government circles (Plehve) driven by the exigencies of the moment. Discusses the influence of Russian Judeophobia on Italian antisemitism in the 19th-20th centuries and the fate of the "Protocols" in Italy. The appendix I (pp. 229-289) presents the text of the "Protocols" in Italian, reconstructed from several previous versions

La giudeofobia in Russia : dal Libro del kahal ai Protocolli dei savi di Sion by Cesare G De Michelis( Book )

7 editions published in 2001 in Italian and held by 36 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Presents the text of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" (1903) and nine other antisemitic texts - by Yakov Brafman (a Jewish apostate), Mikhail Menshikov, Pavolaki Krushevan, Georgii Butmi, and Aleksei Shmakov, and three anonymous works. The introduction (pp. 13-46) states that the "Protocols" reflects the characteristics of the Russian antisemitic subculture which crystallized in the second half of the 19th century. It combines the perception of the Jews as a mysterious, esoteric people with an earlier Russian belief that the world is ruled by a superior force (i.e. God). The waves of secularism in the second half of the 19th century produced a profane version of this belief, attributing to the Jews (masters of mystery and esotericism) the role of the superior force now ruling the world
