Annotating new genes : from in silico screening to experimental validation by Shizuka Uchida( )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 599 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Annotating new genes outlines an approach to the analysis of evolutionary-conserved, heart-enriched genes with unknown functions, offering a step-by-step description of the procedure from screening to validation. The book begins by offering an introduction to the databases and software available, before moving on to cover programming guidelines, including a specific case study on the use of C-It for in silico screening. The second half of the book offers a step-by-step guide to experimental validation concepts and procedures, as well as an overview of additional potential applications of this approach in the field of stem cells and tissue regeneration, before a concluding chapter summarises the concepts and theories presented
Nuclear pore complexes and nucleocytoplasmic transport - methods by Valérie Doye( )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 554 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Volume 122 of Methods in Cell Biology describes modern tools and techniques used to study nuclear pore complexes and nucleocytoplasmic transport in diverse eukaryotic model systems (including mammalian cells, Xenopus, C. elegans, yeast). The volume enables investigators to analyze nuclear pore complex structure, assembly, and dynamics; to evaluate protein and RNA trafficking through the nuclear envelope; and to design in vivo or in vitro assays appropriate to their research needs. Beyond the study of nuclear pores and transport as such, these protocols will also

Direct processing of long fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites and their mechanical behavior under static and dynamic load by Melanie Rohde-Tibitanzl( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 406 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The mechanical behavior of fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites is mainly influenced by fiber length. However, fiber length is strongly reduced during processing. For this reason direct processing techniques are increasingly applied in order to avoid fiber fracture and thus to generate composites with long fibers. This work investigates the influence of fiber length especially on fatigue behavior of thermoplastic composites. The processing influences on fiber length of composites during injection molding compounding are thereby analyzed and quantified. It is thus shown how to directly influence fiber length in the composite

Handbook of material weathering by George Wypych( )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 251 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The fifth edition of this seminal work provides comprehensive and current information on material weathering for over forty families of polymers. It presents discussions on formulating mechanisms of degradation, effect of thermal processes, present characteristic changes in properties, and tables of available numerical data. This single source reference will dramatically reduce the time used searching for answers in many different sources. This book is an important reference monograph for those involved in studying material durability, producing materials for outdoor use and actinic exposure, research chemists in the photochemistry field, chemists and material scientists designing new materials, users of manufactured products, those who control the quality of manufactured products, and students who want to apply their knowledge to real materials
Sulfur : history, technology, applications & industry by Gerald Kutney( )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 243 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sulfur is devoted to the methods of production and applications as they intertwined during different stages of industrial and technological developments. Commercial sulfuric acid production from the early 16th century until today is reviewed, spanning the Ancient and Renaissance periods, the Industrial Age (to which sulfur was vitally important), and the Sulfur War of 1840. The book introduces "the Sulfur Age" and the processes of this period -- such as the Nordhausen, Bell and Leblanc methods --, then goes on to review native sulfur production in Sicily, once a major supplier to the world. The 'Frasch method' is also covered in detail. Moving to present day, the book presents "recovered" sulfur -- derived from sour gas and oil -- which constitutes 90% of today's elemental sulfur supply, and looks to Canada, a powerhouse supplier of Recovered Sulfur. An entire chapter is devoted to the modern-day sulfur entrepreneur, with a profile of various investors (from the reluctant to the private and institutional), and evaluates the benefits of adopting new and revolutionary technologies. Finally, the book forecasts the sulfur industry's future and potential supply sources, such as worldwide oil sands. Covers the latest trends in sulfur production, and evaluates the costs and benefits of new processesDiscusses existing practices for removal of sulfur - a common contaminant - from oil and natural gasA fascinating and detailed history of sulfur processing technology
