Dr. Beck is the primary leader in Cognitive Therapy. He is University Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and is Director of the Center for Cognitive Therapy. He has published numerous articles and five books - the most recent, Anxiety Disorders and Phobias, is destined to be as influential as his earlier works. Dr. Beck is noted for his work with anxiety and depression. Cognitive therapy, in part, deals with the thoughts - the negative things we tell ourselves - that lead to bad feelings and clinical symptoms. In this film, Dr. Beck teaches Richard how to identify his own negative thoughts and to rebut them to help his anxiety, his anger and his depression. This is a valuable film for the patient as well as the professional in providing immediately effective skills to reverse such debilitating maladies
Three approaches to psychotherapy III by Hans H Strupp( Visual )

1 edition published in 1986 in English and held by 186 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Dr. Strupp is a Psychodynamic therapist and is Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Vanderbilt University. He has written numerous articles and books. His most recent book, Psychotherapy in a New Key: A Guide to Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy, has been described as a "milestone in the 'new wave' of psychotherapy research." Dr. Strupp's work is based on an interpersonal model. He believes it is useful to view a patient's problem as disturbances in interpersonal relationships. He says that, "Patients rigidly cling to the past, and they do so by 'cyclical maladapative patterns.'" The therapist's role, he says, is to identify these patterns in the patient's life, to call them to the patient's attention, to help the patient explore the ramifications of the pattern in the patient's current life, and to provide a new relationship that can, at the very least, help to mitigate earlier damage. In his interview with the client Richard, Dr. Strupp skillfully draws from the patient the scenarios that help to identify Richard's maladaptive patterns
Three approaches to psychotherapy III by Donald Meichenbaum( Visual )

1 edition published in 1986 in English and held by 186 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Dr. Meichenbaum, Professor of Psychology at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, is one of the founders of Cognitive-Behavior Modification, and his book, Cognitive-Behavior Modification: An Integrative Approach, is considered a classic in the field. His system is an attempt to integrate the clinical concerns of Psychodynamic and Cognitive-Semantic therapists with the technology of Behavior therapy. Meichenbaum says that behavior, from a Cognitive-Behavioral perspective, is a reflection of several processes: the kinds of thoughts, beliefs, internal dialogues, images, feelings, and the ways we appraise the environment. The job of the therapist includes helping the patient become aware of: a) each of these processes, b) the kinds of behavioral patterns that the patient emits over and over in differing situations, and c) the reactions the patient elicits from others. The therapist, according to Dr. Meichenbaum, is to help the patient to view these reactions as evidence and to nurture the courage in the patient to "try something different," to perform personal experiments in order to unfreeze believes, to discover options, and to change. Dr. Meichenbaum touches on many of these processes and roles with Richard in a very effective and moving interview
