A Declaration on peace : in God's people the world's renewal has begun : a contribution to ecumenical dialogue by Douglas Gwyn( )

3 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 1,319 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Many Christians have become increasingly sensitive to the destructiveness of war. They are recognizing war's limited ability as a public policy instrument. They are acknowleding the social, economic, and spiritual consequences of preparing to wage war. These concerns have begun to revive the conscience of the church in new ways. This text contends that peacemaking is essential to Christian discipleship. It is the vocation of the church as a whole. Moving beyond the traditional debate around "pacifism," this statement seeks dialogue concerning a renewed vision of the entire purpose of God in the world. In A Declaration on Peace, Brethren, Friends, Mennonites, and the Fellowship of Reconciliation seek conversation with Christians everywhere on peace, war, militarism, and justice. The book offers an ecumenical dialogue on the morality of war grounded in a biblical vision common to all Christian communions

This documentary illustrates the Pax volunteer program for conscientious objectors which ran from 1950 to 1975. Pax Service began as a way to address the housing crisis in Europe after the destruction of World War II. The program was one of the alternative service programs available to conscientious objectors after the U.S. began a military draft in 1950. The draft continued from the Korean War through the Cold War and Vietnam War eras. This documentary is about the 1,200 young volunteers who performed relief and development work in 40 countries around the world, many paying their own way. It includes a discussion guide and additional bonus content: an extended version of the broadcast, a Pax reunion tour of Europe, "A Day in Pax" slide show, and more. This recording was produced with the assistance of many former Pax volunteers, the Mennonite Central Committee, Church of the Brethren, and Faith & Values Media
