Measuring, monitoring and modeling concrete properties : an international symposium dedicated to Professor Surendra P. Shah, Northwestern University, U.S.A. by S. P Shah( )

8 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 415 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Of ECF16 Chairman Emmanuel E. Gdoutos The "16th European Conference of Fracture," (ECF16), was held in the beautiful town of Alexandroupolis, Greece, site of the Democritus University of Thrace, July 3-7, 2006. Within the context of ECF16 forty six special symposia and sessions were organized by renowned experts from around the world. The present volume is devoted to the symposium on "Measuring, Monitoring and Modeling Concrete Properties" (MMMCP) organized by my wife Dr. Maria Konsta-Gdoutos in honor of our good friend Surendra P. Shah of Nor- western University, USA. I am greatly indebted to Maria for undertaking the difficult task to organize this symposium with great success and edit the symposium volume. Started in 1976, the European Conference of Fracture (ECF) takes place every two years in a European country. Its scope is to promote world-wide cooperation among s- entists and engineers concerned with fracture and fatigue of solids. ECF16 was under the auspices of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) and was sponsored by the American Society of Testing and Materials, the British Society for Stain Measurement, the Society of Experimental Mechanics, the Italian Society for Experimental Mechanics and the Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineers. ECF16 focused in all aspects of structural integrity with the objective of improving the safety and performance of engineering str- tures, components, systems and their associated materials
High performance concretes and applications by Sonali Shah( )

15 editions published between 1980 and 2003 in English and Undetermined and held by 396 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Over the last decade, the use of high performance concrete has steadily increased throughout the world, particularly in the construction of tall buildings and bridges. This increased availability has been accompanied by a continuing search for improvements in the mechanical properties, methods of production and durability of this material. Inclusion of examples and case studies drawn from throughout the world. Also includes coverage of both theory and practice; and an explanation of the effect of material properties on the structural design and performance of concrete. --
Nanotechnology in construction : proceedings of NICOM5 by Konstantin Sobolev( )

12 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 263 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Nanotechnology has already demonstrated surprising potential for improving the performance of construction materials and many of these recent developments were facilitated by NICOM symposia. The NICOM5 proceedings will cover the emerging opportunities and future use of nanotechnology in construction and will illustrate the broad potential for application of nanotechnology to challenging problems involving materials and infrastructure -- Publisher's description

This book focuses on the problems related to a comprehensive treatment of mechanics of fracture of quasi-brittle materials, such as ceramics, concrete and some rock. Experimental treatment of fracture process zone using laser holographic interferometry and infrared thermography as well as theoretical treatment of nonlinear fracture mechanics are discussed in detail. In addition, numerical simulations of strain softening, discrete cracks, and smeared cracks are presented. Models for quasi-static and dynamic fluid-driven cracks in jointed rocks are described. Mathematical treatment and experimental observations of damage in fiber-reinforced cement-based composites elucidate how fibers provide toughening to the materials under consideration. Various test methods to evaluate fracture toughness in Mode I, Mode II, and mixed-mode loading, as well as design methods for demolition of concrete and rock blasting are presented. Other topics include: fatigue, size-effects, analysis of large dams and hydraulic fracture. The book should be of interest to civil engineers, engineers and researchers dealing with ceramics, geophysicists, material scientists and the community involved with fracture of brittle materials
