Women in power : the personalities and leadership styles of Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, and Margaret Thatcher by Blema S Steinberg( )

9 editions published between 2008 and 2014 in English and held by 1,441 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In Women in Power, Blema S. Steinberg explores the personalities and leadership styles of three remarkable female leaders, Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, and Margaret Thatcher to help us understand the ways in which personality impacts on leadership. The personality traits of each woman are examined using insights from the fields of psychiatry, psychology, and psychoanalysis, while their respective leadership styles draw upon measures developed by political scientists. Steinberg then tests the theoretical expectations concerning the relationship between different personality traits and leadership styles against the empirical evidence for each prime minister. The book concludes with a comparative analysis of her results."--Jacket

India's neutralism : in theory and practice by Blema S Steinberg( Book )

4 editions published in 1961 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"It has become a truism of international politics to say that the power configuration in the atomic age is vastly different from that which existed during the 18th and 19th centuries--the classical era of European interstate relations. But in what way does it differ and how do these differences affect the position of the would-be neutralist in the mid-20th century? In the belief that hypotheses about both these questions are essential to an understanding of neutrality and its progeny, neutralism, this chapter offers some propositions about the structure of international politics in the pre-atomic and atomic eras."--

Foreign policy demands are to be classified as to bilateral relations with neighbours, to the Southern Asian international system, and to the global state system. Canadian attitudes to Communist China by Maureen Appel( )

1 edition published in 1964 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Canada, enmeshed in the 'China tangle' since 1949, has made only a few, haphazard attempts to cut through the web. The web itself has been spun out of material of almost bewildering complexity: the diplomatic problem of recognition of a Communist government, and in this case, one which replaced a régime friendly to the 'West'; concomitant to recognition, the questions of Chinese admission to the United Nations, a body, incidentally, which has branded the Peking government an aggressor, as well as the future of the former government of China - now in exile on Formosa - and in fact, the future of that very island, and Taiwanese claims to self-determination; also, the multiplicity of cross-threads such as Sino Canadian trade and Canadian church interest in the Chinese people themselves; and underlying all, the United States involvement in the China issues and its influence - direct or otherwise - upon Canadian attitudes and policy, or the lack of it."--

Ceylon's foreign policy (1953-59) : an elite image analysis by R. J Mukerjee( )

1 edition published in 1968 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The foreign policy of Ceylon (1953-59) has been examined on the basis of a model for foreign policy analysis developed by Professors Michael Brecher, Blema Steinberg and Janice Stein (McGill University). An attempt was made to delineate and compare the 'world views' of Prime Ministers J.L. Kotelawala and S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, followed by an analysis of the way in which their 'images' were reflected in selected foreign policy decisions. The data collated from this study of Ceylonts foreign policy was then tested against a number of hypotheses that emerged from a macro-study of the decision-making behavior of eight middle-powers. A major conclusion of this study was that despite the dramatic change in regimes in Ceylon after the 1956 General Elections, the country's foreign policy continued to be marked by a process of both continuity and change."--
