Unmapping the Renaissance by Unmapping the Renaissance (Veranstaltung)( Book )

6 editions published between 2015 and 2017 in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The city of Florence is regarded as the birthplace of the Renaissance. The fact that the economic and commercial power structures that developed during this time also brought about the colonization of non-European worlds through linguistic and semiotic hegemony, among other things, is to this day rarely incorporated into the traditional Florentine narrative. Post-colonial theoretical approaches question the role of the Latin alphabet, of printing, of language in the dominance of the renaissance narrative - in particular, these more recent approaches revisit social ideals on whose flip sides are the dispossession, canonization and hierarchizing of culture, memory and space. These ideals and their contrasting opposites unfolded, and continue to unfold, in the afterlife of the renaissance narrative."--Cover page 1
On one side of the same water : künstlerische Praxis zwischen Tirana und Tanger( Book )

6 editions published in 2012 in German and English and held by 67 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The 'Jahresring 59' is devoted to examples of artistic practice in the Mediterranean region, or, more precisely, the southern and southeastern regions, otherwise known more for being arenas of crises, conflicts, or revolutions. Beginning in the nineties, European cultural scientists started rediscovering the Mediterranean region as an area of culture and knowledge, not lastly against the backdrop of migration and energy policies. Both perspectives evade the practice of contemporary artists. In Tirana, Algiers, Istanbul, Beirut, Alexandria, or Tangiers, artists reflect on the here and now at a high level of cognition and apply new, non-institutionalized models to intervene in the processes of shaping civil societies. This volume, whose title is borrowed from a work by Lawrence Weiner, does not seek to inventory circumstances in each nation, but employs artistic stances and research to construe a conversation about the spheres of activity involving art and artists today
