Schatzbehalter : Holzschnitte von Michael Wolgemut und Wilhelm Pleydenwurff by Stephan Fridolin( Book )

4 editions published between 1491 and 1972 in 3 languages and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Englische Version: This early New High German incunabulum with almost one hundred high-quality woodcuts comes from the Nuremberg workshop of the artists Michael Wolgemut (1434-1519) and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff (1460-1494). The "Treasure Keeper" was published anonymously, but the Prior of the Nuremberg Franciscan Monastery, Stephan Fridolin, can undoubtedly be determined as the author. Following stops in Bamberg and Mainz, the Franciscan remained in Nuremberg from 1479 until his death. The "Treasure Keeper" was created as a book of edification dedicated to the passion and death of Christ. The text and pictures are closely related, the target groups were laymen and literate people. The Franciscan text was presented in a way that was easy to understand and didactic, and was addressed both to the unlearned with no previous scientific or theological knowledge and to a spiritually educated audience. Several copies of the "Treasure Keeper" have been preserved: the woodcuts in the copy of the Provinzialbibliothek Amberg are coloured throughout. The binding of the Staatliche Bibliothek Neuburg's copy has the typical characteristics of the so-called Ottheinrich binding: the gold-embossed initial letters of the Duke of Palatinate-Neuburg Otto Henry (German: Ottheinrich, 1502-1559), the adage MDZ ("Mit der Zeit", in English "With Time"), underneath it OHP, the Prince-elector's monogram, and the binding year (1543) as well as the Palatinate coat of arms with lion and diamonds. Ott Henry had defined the standards for designing bindings in writing. // Datum: 2020

Der Mainzer Schatzbehalter : ein koloriertes Andachtsbuch von 1491 by Dominik Bartl( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in German and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
