Operation unity( Visual )

in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"An African American, Cookie Lommel, is the founder and president of Operation Unity, an organization building bridges between peoples. As a journalist she covers the music industry where she has many Jewish friends. In 1991 she went to Israel to see what the Ethiopian Jewish rescue to Israel was all about. She was fascinated with this tiny country and considered the kibbutz a microcosm of a community showing 'harmony in action'. She thought that American children would benefit from a trip there. On her return she sought teenagers who were 'at risk' but showed potential. She sent 5 African-Americans and 5 Latinos to Israel where they worked on a kibbutz for two months. Their lives were changed. Some went to college. Others participated in worthwhile projects and spoke publicly about their experience"--Container
