From Basel : Herzog & de Meuron by Jean-François Chevrier( )

6 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 939 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Cindy Sherman : the early works 1975-1977 : catalogue raisonné by Cindy Sherman( Book )

2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 340 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Overview: For more than 30 years now, Cindy Sherman has been enacting a gamut of female roles and identities. Contrary to popular belief, the famous Untitled Film Stills (1978-80) are not Sherman's earliest works, but rather those photographs she took as a student at State University College at Buffalo, between 1975 and 1977. During those years, Sherman cast aside the career in painting she had initially imagined for herself and began to study photography: "I was meticulously copying other art and then I realized I could just use a camera and put my time into an idea instead," she later recalled. Cindy Sherman: The Early Works, 1975-1977 gathers all of the artist's work from this decisive phase, in which Sherman was formulating her conceptions of gender and identity construction, gathering her toolkit of props (wigs, makeup, costumes) and becoming friends with artists such as Robert Longo (with whom she would establish the Hallwalls gallery in New York). With nearly 300 plates, including numerous previously unknown photographs, plus scholarly research by editor Gabriele Schor, this substantial volume adds a wealth of new information to our understanding of Sherman's oeuvre. Cindy Sherman (born 1954) is one of America's most influential living artists. Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, she was raised on Long Island and studied at State University College, Buffalo. Upon graduation she moved to New York and soon commenced work on the groundbreaking series that would make her name, Untitled Film Stills. In 1996, The Museum of Modern Art bought a complete set of the series for one million dollars

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 104 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume accompanies the first major solo exhibition on American artist Paul Chan (born 1973) since his series The 7 Lights was presented at the New Museum in 2008. Chan is one of the most versatile and unpredictable artists of his generation, and certainly one of the most original voices in contemporary art today. Chan's combination of old and new works casts new light on the content and complexity of his fascinating art. 14 rooms( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For '14 Rooms' curators Klaus Biesenbach and Hans Ulrich Obrist invited fourteen international artists to each activate a room, exploring the relationship between space, time, and physicality with an artwork whose "material" is the human being. Giving visitors an insight into a more performative and interactive practice, the exhibition presents a new situation in each of the fourteen rooms, engaging the viewer in a diverse series of immersive and intimate experiences. '14 Rooms' features works by artists including Marina Abramović, Allora & Calzadilla, Ed Atkins, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Damien Hirst, Joan Jonas, Laura Lima, Bruce Nauman, Otobong Santiago Sierra, and Xu Zhen. Two additional works by Jordan Wolfson and John Baldessari are placed within the spectacular architectural environment conceived by Herzog & de Meuron, Wolfson's acting as an epilogue, Baldessari's as an archival documentation. Both challenge the very notions of live art and the human experience as set out for '14 Rooms'

The inevitable specificity of cities : Napoli, Nile Valley, Belgrade, Nairobi, Hong Kong, Canary Islands, Beirut, Casablanca( Book )

3 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 72 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What is a city? What determines its specific city? What shapes its quality? The evolution of the contemporary city does not follow a linear movement. It is shaped by transformation processes that are directed toward often distant and conflicting goals. Even though cities are inscribed into global processes and networks, they develop their own specifi c ways of dealing with these conditions. They tend to produce and reproduce their own specific city, their own patterns and character traits. Using the categories of territory, power, and difference -- also lending the book its structure -- the texts analyze different case studies of cities and urbanized territories, ranging from the Canary Islands to Hong Kong and Nairobi, unfolding the distinctiveness of their physical and social existences. With contributions by Roger Diener, Mathias Gunz, Manuel Herz, Jacques Herzog, Rolf Jenni, Marcel Meili, Shadi Rahbaran, Christian Schmid, and Milica Topalovic

1 edition published in 2013 in German and held by 52 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hanna Roeckle : configurations in flow : Werke 2005-2014 = Works 2005-2014 by Hanna Roeckle( Book )

2 editions published in 2014 in German and held by 49 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The first monograph on the concrete art of this Zurich-based artist The works of Hanna Roeckle (born 1950 in Liechtenstein) are poised between painting and sculpture. Her three-dimensional works are based on spatial structures and serial systems, whose clarity of form enters into a polytonal dialogue with sensitive combinations and transitions of color. Art is joined with other fields of research, since in her work the artist draws on specific concepts from geometry, physics, systems theory, cultural history, and the history of architecture and design. For the grounds of the Haus für Kunst Uri she developed a sculpture that is a kindred spirit of the polyhedron portrayed by Albrecht Dürer in his mysterious engraving Melencolia I (1514). With its crystalline edges, Roeckle's polyhedron represents a logical development within her oeuvre. Spray-coated with monochrome car paint, the surface oscillates between a blue-green violet and a flowing, warm red, depending on the position of the viewer. Texts by Sabine Arlitt, Friedemann Malsch, Sibylle Omlin, Roland Scotti, Uwe Wieczorek, Barbara Zürcher, Dominique von Burg, graphic design by Peter Zimmermann. Publisher's note
