Correspondance de Martin Bucer by Martin Bucer( Book )

in Latin and held by 285 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Unlike most theologians of his age, Martin Bucer proved to be farsighted with respect to European affairs: In addition to his contacts within Alsace and Germany he established relations with almost every European country. It was his ecumenical attitude that always led him to mediate between the parties in the religious battles of his time. His deep commitment to the goal of reaching agreement can be traced in all his activities, works and letters. Since the first editor, Jean Rott (Strasbourg), died in 1998, Bucer's correspondence has been edited in Erlangen. This academic edition of source material provides future research with a broad basis for significant aspects of Reformation history about which very little is known. Volume VII covers the period from October 1531 to March 1532

Religiosität im späten Mittelalter Spannungspole, Neuaufbrüche, Normierungen by Berndt Hamm( Book )

7 editions published between 2011 and 2020 in German and held by 123 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

12 editions published between 2003 and 2020 in German and held by 120 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The sacrifice of the mass is a religious ritual which is of crucial importance for the thinking and the self-understanding of late medieval society. Wolfgang Simon examines its theological and political background and shows how Luther developed his own concept of sacrament and sacrifice. Why did he call what was commonly thought of as a sacrifice the »worst abomination«? How did his theology of the mass affect everyday life? How were his ideas received and changed by the clergymen in the cities? Why did Luther criticize Karlstadt's activities in Wittenberg, and to what extent was the Reformation a Lutheran event? Wolfgang Simon deals with these questions, showing the links between the historical, theological and sociological aspects, thus contributing to the present ecumenical discussions on sacrament, the church service and sacrifice
Martin Bucer zwischen den Reichstagen von Augsburg (1530) und Regensburg (1532) Beiträge zu einer Geographie, Theologie und Prosopographie der Reformation by Wolfgang Simon( Book )

7 editions published between 2011 and 2020 in German and held by 72 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Martin Bucer, a Protestant reformer based in Strasbourg, was of great importance as a religious leader, a theologian and an ecumenical mediator in 16th century Europe. Bucer's correspondence with the leading figures of his time contains numerous unguarded comments on the history of pivotal developments and events. Based on his recently published correspondence from the years 1530-1532, the authors explore Bucer's contribution to the Reformation. They focus on Bucer's impact on the Reformation in Southern Germany and Switzerland, his theology (understanding of the Scriptures, the theology of the Lord's Supper, his concept of truth and tolerance) as well as his relationships with influential people of the period (Luther and Melanchthon among others)

Religiosität im späten Mittelalter Spannungspole, Neuaufbrüche, Normierungen by Berndt Hamm( )

1 edition published in 2020 in German and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book deals with the surprisingly manifold relationships between theology based on piety, pastoral care, the practice of piety, religiousness of the laity, reform of the monasteries, urban church life and religious paintings, carvings and sculptures from the 14th to the early 16th century. Late medieval religiousness is seen as a force of opposing trends, for example between attitudes toward piety which are highly ritualistic on the outside and those which are highly internalizing. The articles make it clear that for each religious problem there is an entire spectrum of theoretical solutions and practical behavioral patterns. Hence the Late Middle Ages are presented as an era of accelerated religious agitation, creativity and mobility
