Chiyogami papers = Chiyogami by Sidney E Berger( Book )

1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Chiyogami designs were originally developed in the Edo period as woodblock prints. The decorative papers were made into colorful paper dolls or pasted on tea tins or small paper boxes. In the twentieth century, these patterns began to be applied using silkscreens and this continues today. Henry Morris founded Bird & Bull Press in 1958, where he has published numerous studies on paper marbling. This is his seventh volume. The volumes are especially useful because of the striking samples of hand-marbled papers tipped into each copy

A journey around my room by Xavier de Maistre( Book )

1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 34 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1790, Xavier de Maistre was 27 years old, and a soldier in the army of the Sardinian Kingdom, which covered swathes of modern-day Northern Italy and Southern France. He was placed under house-arrest in Turin for fighting an illegal duel. It was during the 42 days of his confinement here that he wrote the manuscript that would become Voyage autour de ma chambre. Inspired by the works of Laurence Sterne, with their digressive and colloquial style, de Maistre decided to make the most of his sentence by recording an exploration of the room as a travel journal. de Maistre’s book imbues the tour of his chamber with great mythology and grand scale. As he wanders the few steps that it takes to circumnavigate the space, his mind spins off into the ether. It parodies the travel journals of the eighteenth-century (such as A Voyage Around the World by Louis de Bougainville, 1771), and could be read today as an early take on the modern vogue for “psychogeography” — each tiny thing that he encounters sends de Maistre into rhapsodies, and mundane journeys become magnificent voyages

Emerge( Book )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 28 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The relationships between the four dimensions: line, area, volume and time, were the focus of this class. We started by drawing from nature, drawing only the edges of leaves and flowers in a continuous line, in order to explore the boundary. Next we allowed lines to intersect, creating areas, which demanded to be filled with color. This led us to choose colors which followed the seasons, starting with winter. To depict volume, we overlapped and lifted images off the page. The time element was reflected in the changing of the seasons, as well as the time it took to produce the original drawings and getting each process done in a timely fashion. The sparse text was developed after the images were finalized. In the end, we wanted the images to be just out of reach of recognition"--Foreword
