Questions & answers : copyright law by David Fagundes( Book )

4 editions published between 2010 and 2018 in English and held by 205 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Copyright law determines what it means to own works of authorship, and it does so by means of a complex federal statute. Questions & Answers: Copyright Law helps students navigate this challenging subject matter with multiple choice, short answer, and final exam essay questions that test both the concepts and substantive law of copyright. The second edition includes over fifty new multiple choice questions, as well as three new practice examinations. These additions reflect the latest developments in this ever-changing field, including the implications of U.S. Supreme Court decisions such as Petrella v. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Golan v. Holder, and American Broadcasting Cos., Inc. v. Aereo, Inc. The questions and practice exams span the varied landscape of copyright, including:Requirements for copyright protection;Copyrightable subject matter;Ownership of copyright;Protection of exclusive rights;Copyright formalities;Length of copyright protection;Infringement;Fair use and other affirmative defenses;Remedies; andEnhanced protection for digital materials

Initial trademark ownership by Robert C Lind( )

in English and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This lesson concerns the initial ownership of trademarks. It does not address the assignment or licensing of trademarks, nor the transfer of trademark registrations. This lesson is intended as a review of material covered in the trademark law course."--CALI lessons subject list
Abandonment by Robert C Lind( )

in English and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This lesson deals with how trademark protection may be lost by abandonment, i.e. the discontinued use of a mark, the licensing of a mark in gross or an assignment of a mark in gross. This lesson is intended to be used as a supplement to the student's course material. It analyzes several issues that arise from the non-use or limited use of a mark, the licensing or assignment of a mark, as well as the considerations that follow the resumption of use of an abandoned mark."--CALI lessons subject list
Related goods by Robert C Lind( )

in English and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This lesson is designed to help the student determine the scope of protection given to a trademark. It is designed to supplement material that has been covered in the trademark law course. The determination of the scope of a mark's protection is helpful in the initial selection of a trademark, the trademark registration process, and the enforcement of the trademark. The student will review the concept of related goods by investigating the scope of trademark protection in several scenarios. Students should be familiar with how to select a trademark, register a trademark, and apply the likelihood of confusion test."--CALI lessons subject list
Distinctiveness by Robert C Lind( )

in English and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This lesson provides an analysis of the levels of distinctiveness and the requirements for the determination of whether a term chosen as a mark is inherently distinctive, must yet acquire distinctiveness, or is incapable of trademark protection regardless of distinctiveness. The lesson is intended as a review of material that is covered early in a Trademark Law course."--CALI lessons subject list
What is 'a song' and protection for live performances podcast by Robert C Lind( )

in English and held by 58 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Prof. Lind teaches Copyright, Trademark, Entertainment Law, Mass Media law, and Museum and Art Law at Southwestern. He is also the author of several CALI lessons on copyright and trademark law. In this podcast, he explains the confusion that arises from the use of the term "song." Prof. Lind also discusses the terms "author" and "sound recording" and their implications for protection under the U.S. Copyright Act. In this podcast Prof. Lind analyzes several performances (a vocalist and comedy improv troupe) and discusses whether their performances are protected by Copyright Law and the role of the Bootlegging statutes."--CALI lessons subject list
Copyright duration by Robert C Lind( )

in English and held by 54 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This lesson deals with copyright duration, an arcane, technical and somewhat laborious subject that is not always covered in depth in copyright law or intellectual property law courses. Therefore, it is assumed that this is the student's initial exposure to the subject matter. Nevertheless, copyright duration is one of the few areas of copyright law that is filled with certitude. After divining the relevant background information concerning the creation of a work, including manner of authorship responsible for creating the work, the specific date on which copyright protection for a work has or will end can be determined. Only copyright duration under United States copyright law is addressed."--CALI lessons subject list

Solution to the binary diffusion laminar boundary layer equations including the effect of second-order transverse curvature by N. A Jaffe( Book )

3 editions published between 1966 and 1967 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The report presents a numerical method for solving the binary diffusion laminar boundary-layer equations. The differential equations of continuity, momentum, energy, and species diffusion are solved simultaneously for two-dimensional or axisymmetric flow. For the case of axisymmetric flow the second-order transverse curvature terms appearing in the equations are retained. Relations for mixture fluid properties as functions of local conditions in the boundary layer are developed and used in obtaining solutions to the equations. The mixtures considered in the investigation are He - air, Ar - air, and CO2 - air. Solutions to the equations are given for flow of a pure air free stream over a 9 degree half angle cone at a free stream Mach number of 10 and free stream Reynolds number, based on cone slant length of 940. The initial section of the cone is solid and mass injection is initiated at a location downstream of the tip. Results are presented and compared for calculations both including and neglecting the second-order transverse curvature effect. (Author)
Correction of Phase Distortion by Nonlinear Optical Techniques( Book )

3 editions published between 1979 and 1981 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is the final report on a program designed to explore a recently recognized property of certain nonlinear optical interactions of generating conjugate wavefronts that can be used to correct optical distortions in laser systems. These distortions include optical train aberrations, laser medium distortions, and atmospheric propagation aberrations. The program was divided into three basic areas that bridge the gap between a preliminary exploration of the applicable nonlinear processes and realization of their potential usefulness to laser systems. The areas were to measure quantitatively the properties of phase conjugation by four-wave mixing and SBS, to develop a theoretical understanding of nonlinear phase conjugation, and to determine the applicability of nonlinear phase conjugation to various systems of interest to DARPA. Experimentally Demonstrated: Four-wave reflectivity exceeding unity in the green; Complete aberration correction by four-wave mixing and SBS for severely aberrated beams (approx. 35X diffraction limit), Viable approaches to angle offset using four-wave mixing; and Input/output separation using polarization properties of four-wave mixing
Study of a general method of solution of the incompressible turbulent boundary layer equations. by A. M. O Smith( Book )

3 editions published in 1965 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This work is an attempt to develop a general method of solution to the mean (time averaged) flow equations governing the turbulent boundary layer. The problem of incompressible flow is considered as an initial step towards the solution of the more general problem of compressible flow. In the approach adopted, once the Reynold's shear stress is formulated in terms of an eddy viscosity, no further approximations are made. The accuracy of the eddy viscosity can be assessed only by comparison of the calculated results with experimental data. An eddy viscosity formulation believed to incorporate the latest knowledge on turbulent boundary layers has been made. Calculations have been made for a considerable number of flows and comparison with experimental data indicates that the present formulation has produced remarkably accurate solutions. However, there do exist disagreements in regions of high adverse pressure gradients which warrant further study and perhaps modification of the present eddy viscosity formulation. At this time the work is mostly of scientific value. That is, it answers the question of what can be accomplished by accurate calculations employing the eddy viscosity concept. A practical working method has not yet been attained. Calculations are so involved that large computing times are required; one hour being necessary for some of the more difficult problems
