The papers collected in this volume represent the range offered at this auspicious event and demonstrate the vitality of this transcultural dialogue. Topics addressed include the nature of the canon, the poetics of language, the representation of women and the notion of nationalism in postcolonial literature. The significance of this volume lies in the quality of the individual contributions and in the fact that the volume marks an important turning point in the history of English studies in Europe

Theorizing narrativity by European society for the study of English( )

2 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Theorizing Narrativity is a collective work by an international array of leading specialists in narrative theory. It provides new perspectives on the nature of narrative, genre theory, narrative semiotics and communication theory. Most contributions center on the specificity of literary fiction, but each chapter investigates a different dimension of narrativity with many issues dealt with in innovative ways (including oral storytelling, the law, video games, causality, intertextuality and the theory of reading). There are chapters by Gerald Prince on narrativehood and narrativity, Meir Sternberg on the narrativity of the law-code, Werner Wolf on chance and Peter Hühn on eventfulness in fiction, Jukka Tyrkkö on kaleidoscope narratives, Marie-Laure Ryan on transfictionality and computer games, Ansgar Nünning and Roy Sommer as well as Monika Fludernik on the narrativity of drama, Beatriz Penas on (non)standard narrativities, David Rudrum on narrativity and performativity, Michael Toolan on textual guidance, John Pier on causality and retrospection, and José Ángel García Landa on retelling and represented narrations"--

Applications of pattern-driven methods in corpus linguistics by European Society for the Study of English( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

La 4e de couverture indique : "The use of corpora has conventionally been envisioned as being either corpus-based or corpus-driven. While the formal definition of the latter term has been widely accepted since it was established by Tognini-Bonelli (2001), it is often applied to studies that do not, in fact, fullfil the fundamental requirement of a theory-neutral starting point. This volume proposes the term pattern-driven approach as a more precise alternative. The chapters illustrate a variety of methods that fall under this broad methodology, such as lexical bundles, POS-grams and semantic frames, and demonstrate how these approaches can uncover new understandings of both synchronic and diachronic linguistic phenomena."
