L'amiantose et la silicose font partie des pneumoconioses les plus fréquentes et peuvent âtre associées à une détérioration progressive de la fonction pulmonaire. La technique du lavage bronchoalvéolaire (LBA) est utilisée pour tenter de mesurer certains marqueurs potentiels de l'évolution de la maladie. Cependant cette technique est invasive et difficilement répétable. Des scientifiques veulent comparer l'analyse du LBA à celle des sécrétions bronchiques obtenues par la technique de l'expectoration induite (EI) afin de vérifier la présence possible de certains marqueurs prédictifs de changements dans la fonction pulmonaire et leur correlation avec la sévérité des pneumoconioses. Trente travailleurs ayant un diagnostic d'amiantose, 30 autres ayant un diagnostic de silicose et 15 n'ayant aucun problème pulmonaire participeront à l'étude. Les résultats devraient fournir de l'information sur la contribution de ces deux techniques à déterminer la sévérité et la prédisposition de la détérioration de la fonction pulmonaire après le développement de l'amiantose ou de la silicose. Ultimement, les chercheurs espèrent pouvoir disposer de techniques prédictives d'une pneumoconiose chez les travailleurs de l'amiante et de la silice.--Résumé de l'éditeur
