This book provides an overview of the complex challenges and opportunities related to forest-based rural development in the tropics and subtropics. Applying a socio-ecological perspective, the book traces the changing paradigms of forestry in rural development throughout history, summarizes the major aspects of the rural development challenge in forest areas, and documents innovative approaches in fields such as land utilization, technology and organizational development, rural advisory services, financing mechanisms, participative planning, and forest governance. It brings together scholars and practitioners dealing with the topics from various theoretical and practical angles. The ecology and management of pastures in Western Thien-Shan, Kyrgyzstan strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats by Munavar Zhumanova( Book )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

A 42-year dataset analyses showed a homogenization in vegetation composition across ecozones, significant shifts in mean elevation for 60% species in Western Tien-Shan. Kyrgyz mountain pastures are highly sensitive to variations in precipitation and increasing soil-moisture. Prolonged high NDVI values may also be due to vegetation degradation, not climatic changes. We evaluated and modeled agropastoralists' decision-making on land use, herd size under multiple factors' effects. Implications were for policy makers pasture use planning and grassland science in Kyrgyzstan and beyond.<eng>
